Zack Gill

Director, SOAP Retrofit
Founder of SOAP Retrofit in late-2018, Zack has spent his career dedicated to understanding and communicating the occupied performance of buildings, particularly domestic, and is enthusiastic and personally committed to the retrofit mission. His current work draws on his previous experience in design management of large scale retrofit schemes with Willmott Dixon and engineering design and research with Buro Happold and The University of Bristol (under a sponsored PhD, EngD). He is a firm believer of two principles: “You can’t manage what you don’t measure” and “In theory, theory and practice are the practice they aren’t” (thanks Bill!). He established SOAP Retrofit to tangibly reduce the impact of our existing buildings on the environment via real-world measurement and science-based retrofit approaches and is currently developing smarter methods to rapidly, repeatedly and cost-effectively measure the performance of the UK housing stock to advise retrofit strategies and policy
