Assistant Lighting Engineer, WSP
Emma Beadle is currently a lighting designer in the architectural lighting team at WSP based in London. Originally from Edinburgh, Emma graduated with a First Class Honours in Interior and Spatial Design in 2016 from Edinburgh Napier University. Inspired by the lighting design aspects of this course she went on to complete a masters in Lighting Design, also at Edinburgh Napier University, graduating in 2017 with a distinction. During her studies, Emma worked part time as a qualified tennis coach and her experiences with working with children led to the idea for her master’s major project, which combines co-design with children with re-designing Edinburgh's urban third spaces and introduces lighting design to children. She hopes this project will inspire other designers to work with children using similar techniques. At the end of 2018, Emma won SLL’s Young Lighter of the Year, from her master’s project; Children’s Utopian Visions of the City: co-designing lighting masterplans through play and exploration. Most recently, Emma has volunteered on the ILP’s Education committee, where she hopes to continue her project through the development of the Children’s Tool-kit of Light.
