Deputy Director, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Camilla is currently Deputy Director for Building Safety Reform, leading on strategy, reform policy and delivering the Building Safety Bill. Her previous roles include 5 months as a COVID 19 Response Director, leading the situational awareness function as part of MHCLG’s emergency response to the pandemic; Programme Director for Grenfell Recovery, leading work ensure those affected are provided with the support they need and effective management of the Grenfell Tower site; Deputy Director for Housing-led Regeneration and Investment working to develop the Build to Rent market and regenerate social housing estates; and Deputy Director for Big Society and Community Rights leading work to mobilise communities to take action in their neighbourhoods and build community resilience.

Camilla has also led work on Empty Homes, Private Sector Housing, Ecotowns, Fire Service Modernisation, Local Government Finance and Rough Sleeping. She spent 3 years on secondment to Southwark Council from 2005-8 where she led work to develop a new local service delivery model, improve commissioning of the Voluntary and Community Sector and deliver a new council / voluntary sector premises strategy. Prior to joining the civil service, she was a self-employed musician and Head of Music at Southwark College and also Chair of the Aylesbury Estate’s New Deal for Communities Board.
