Professor Mark Gillott

Professor of Sustainable Building Design
University of Nottingham

Prof Gillott is the Chair in Sustainable Building Design at the University of Nottingham’s Department of Architecture and Built Environment. He has over 23 years’ experience in low carbon sustainable energy technologies and sustainable building design. He is the research and project manager for the multi-award winning Creative Energy Homes low/zero carbon housing project. Through this project, he has designed, constructed and monitored the performance of some of the UK’s first ‘Code for Sustainable Homes’ level 4 and 6 homes. He project managed the design construction of the UK entry to the international solar decathlon project, which produced a Zero Carbon Volumetric modular off-site manufactured home. He has extensive experience in the monitoring and evaluation of buildings and is currently the lead academic on the Innovate UK £6 million project SCENe and project managing the £3 million UK Energy Research Accelerator Community Energy Demonstrator at the £180 million Nottingham Trent Basin housing development of low carbon homes. Prof Gillott is the Deputy Head of the Architecture, Energy and Environment Research Group and the Department Director of Studies with the responsibility for all Departmental-teaching programmes included four CIBSE accredited courses.
