WC1 Air quality: what should we be striving for?

10:00 - 10:45
22/11/2017

What are the risks which poor air quality pose to the health of occupants? What should building services engineers be doing to combat those impacts? How can we establish what constitutes good enough?

  • What should we be striving for (materials, tech, health impacts)
  • What are the challenges for the industry?
  • Urban, neighbourhood, building levels – how each affects the others
  • What are the sources of indoor pollutants, e.g. furnishings and VoCs
  • What are the trade-offs between air tightness of the building envelope and trapping air of a low quality?
  • What is the role of moisture-related pollutants and implications for UK housing design and regulation?

  • Dr Sani Dimitroulopoulou Principal Environmental Public Health Scientist - Public Health England
